Enhanced Supervision of the Financial Market in the EU: Insights from the Literature (2010:3epa)

The economic and financial crisis was one of the most important issues handled during the Swedish EU presidency. The outcome, preceded by at times difficult negotiations, was a political decision concerning a new framework for supervision of the financial market in the EU.

In this analysis, the authors survey the literature in the field in question. Their study shows, among other things, that the supervision structure may well run into problems when various national systems are forced to co-exist within a common framework.

The analysis is in Swedish.

From Policy Takers to Policy Makers: Adapting EU Cohesion Policy to the Needs of the New (2005:5)

The countries in "the class of 2004" are now full-fledged members of the European Union, with equal rights to participate in the policy process shaping its future. This implies a quality leap in their political status. From having been "policy takers", bound to adapt to the policy legacy of EU15, the new Member States will now also be "policy makers", taking full part in the collective deliberations concerning the further development of this acquis.

The Net Migration From the New EU Countries

The paper is primarily an empirical study in which the net migration from the new EU Member States to Sweden is forecasted. The results indicate that free movement for workers has a positive and statistically significant effect on migration flows. The effect is, however, comparatively small in relation to the concerns expressed in the pre-enlargement debate.
