Since the crisis in the food industry in the late 1990:s, with the
outbreak of Mad Cow Decease, the European food policies have undergone
major change.
A new administrative organisation has been established,
with a new European agency, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).
A new Regulatory Committees has been set up to assist the Commission,
called the Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health
(SCFCAH) and also a Commission service, the Food and Veterinary Office
(FVO), located in Ireland. In this report a study is carried out on how
the Swedish central government agency, The National Food
Administration, cooperates with these European organs and how this
affects governance and accountability of Swedish food policy.
