28 November - Law, Politics and Climate Change: EU Strategies for Durban

vikt:

In December 2011, the EU and other concerned parties will convene in Durban in order to try to reach an agreement governing emission reductions after 2012, when the first commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol expires. The EU has been a leading actor in the climate negotiations since the 1992 Rio conference. However, against the background of the current stalemate in the negotiations, it remains to be seen whether the union can demonstrate a more proactive leadership with the aim of establishing a comprehensive climate treaty.

At this seminar, Katak Malla, Senior Researcher at SIEPS, will present the Policy Analysis The EU and Strategies for New Climate Treaty Negotiations. The publication discusses the role of EU during the climate negotiations so far and concludes with some policy recommendations for the coming round.
