EU-positiva opinionsvindar

Date: 27 April 2009 in Stockholm

At this seminar the report EU gradually more accepted will be presented. The latest polls of public opinion shows that support for the EU is at its greatest since Sweden joined. It is now almost a majority support for the EU. The trend shows that more Swedes embrace European integration but differences between different social groups have persisted. Now however, some established patterns of opinion are starting to change. The report is part of the research project Swedish Public Opinion of the European Integration.

SIEPS annualy presents surveys of public opinion trends in cooperation with the SOM Institute at Gothenburg University. A unique feature of these measurements is that they highlight the policy assessments that are critical to the growing support. The measurements show that the issues regarding economy and employment, but also law enforcement, environmental, and social security, contributes to a positive attitude towards EU membership.
