The Future Cohesion Policy in the New Member States
Date: 28 September 2005 in Stockholm, Sweden
How well does EU Structural Policy suit the needs of the new Member States?
The report From Policy Takers to Policy Makers: Adapting EU Cohesion Policy to the Needs of the New Member States by Jonas Eriksson, Bengt O. Karlsson and Daniel Tarschys was presented during this seminar. The report, which is the result of a collaboration between SIEPS and six European research institutes, concludes that the new Member States will not be able to reap the full benefits from EU structural and cohesion support. There is even a risk that the policy will consolidate the current problems, rather than provide a solution to them. The report is a part of the research project EU Regional Policy.
