The Portuguese Presidency

Date: 7 December 2007 in Stockholm, Sweden

The current Portuguese Presidency has inter alia focused on finalizing the negotiations over the Lisbon Treaty. Other priorities include highlighting Africa, with the EU-Africa summit as a controversial centerpiece, and within the framework of the 18 month program, advance the agenda in the area of freedom, security and justice as well as aspects of the Lisbon strategy.

Professor Antonio Goucha Soares gave a speech entitled The Europeanization of Portugal: from 'out of Africa' to the Treaty of Lisbon where the current presidency was evaluated and put into a historical perspective. The seminar is a part of the research project The EU Presidencies.
