The Slovenian Presidency
Date: 28 May 2008 in Stockholm, Sweden
Slovenia is the first post-socialist Member State to hold the presidency of the European Union. The Slovenian Presidency has, inter alia, been devoted to the ratification process of the Lisbon Treaty, the development of the European Research Area, energy and climate change and the situation in the Western Balkans, including the question of the independence of Kosovo.
France will take over the presidency in June, as the first country in the next Trio (France, the Czech Republic and Sweden). The seminar devoted a session to the up-coming French Presidency.
SIEPS bi-annually publishes a report on the incumbent presidency of the EU, focusing on the agenda, domestic factors and the country’s relation to the European integration process. During this seminar the report The 2008 Slovenian EU Presidency: A New Synergy for Europe? A Midterm Report by Danica Fink-Hafner och Damjan Lajh was presented. The report is a part of the research project The EU Presidencies.
