February 26 The European Economy in Focus

The annual report 2010 from the European Economic Advisory Group (EEAG) at the CESIfo Institute in Munich will be presented at a seminar in Stockholm on February 26. In addition to providing a comprehensive forecast of the European economy for the coming year, this year’s EEAG report addresses the challenges of how to exit the crisis without compromising our long-term prospects.

A central chapter of the report includes an analysis of the dramatic drop in trust towards financial intermediates, bankers and financial markets. Suggested strategies for rebuilding trust include a rating system and trust-based compensation scheme.

In addition, the report focuses on the consequences of the large deficits for the sustainability of public finances, assesses the role of the euro in the current crisis and devotes a special chapter to the fiscal and external deficits of the US economy.
