Swedish Presidency 2009: Finding Solidarity in the Face of Crises

The Swedish Institute for European Policy Studies, SIEPS, in cooperation with the Swedish Institute of International Affairs, arranged a major international conference on the eve of the Swedish Presidency of the European Union. On 28-29 May 2009, practitioners  gathered with researchers to assess Swedish priorities under the general theme "Swedish Presidency 2009: Finding Solidarity in the Face of Crises".

Keynote speeches by Cecilia Malmström and Margot Wallström were  followed by parallel workshops covering issues such as institutional reform, ESDP missions, relations with Russia and the EU neighbourhood, energy security, climate change, and the Baltic Sea Strategy (to name but a few; see the full programme attached). A discussion/debate on ensuring a "successful" EU Presidency  concluded the conference.
