EU as a global actor

Timeframe: Completed
Project Manager: Anna Michalski

During a long period of time, the EU has been described as a normative global actor who applies soft instruments. This idea has in the Lisbon Strategy been followed up by a stated ambition to use the EU's weight in the international arena to secure European interests linked to the survival of a European model of society in an increasingly globalized world.

The project aims to highlight the EU's development as a global actor and to examine how and in what forums the EU's will translate this ambition into action. The project also addresses the significance of the emergence of a multipolar world and how the EU, in such a world order, relates to other global actors and in international organizations and forums, both political and rule-generating.
