EU and EMU after the economic crisis

Project manager: Monika Hjeds Löfmark and Jonas Eriksson

The EU experienced the worst economic downturn since the Second World War as a consequence of the financial crisis. The repercussions are still visible in many different ways and the sovereign debt crises in several Euro countries provoked a strong pressure for political reform. It is of particular interest to examine how Sweden may be affected by this development.

In 2016, SIEPS will publish two reports, one that analyses the measures taken and the reforms that are being discussed in order to complete the Economic and Monetary Union and one that analyses the Commission’s proposal for a Capital Markets Union.

Furthermore, SIEPS intends to examine different aspects of the Five President’s Report, “Completing Europe’s Economic and Monetary Union”, for example a common deposit insurance.
