Completing the Union: Is the European Energy Union Really Real? (2015:25epa)

In February 2015, the European Commission adopted its strategy for a European energy union. The document calls for “a fundamental transformation of Europe´s energy system” in order to provide all consumers in Europe with “secure, sustainable, competitive and affordable energy”. In this analysis, the author argues that although the European Union´s Energy Package signals an effective approach in dealing with the geo-political challenge, it is imbued with the tensions between various objectives in the realization of an energy union.
