Lissabonfördraget och det irländska problemet (2008:12epa)
The Lisbon Treaty could take effect before the 2009 European Parliament elections. The treaty could be approved by the Irish Parliament and exceptions can be given to the remaining changes that must be decided in a subsequent referendum.
One compelling reason for this rapid solution is that "the Irish problem" in essence can be setteled before the French EU presidency is over. The two governments in line to assume the Presidency represents the only countries that have not yet taken the necessary political decisions on the Lisbon Treaty: the Czech Republic and Sweden.
