Ökat opinionsstöd för EU (2008:5epa)

Författare: Holmberg Sören

The support for the EU continues to increase in the Swedish public opinion. The latest measurements from the SOM-Institute shows that the support is now stronger than in any previous measurement.

Nearly a majority of Swedes are now in favor of a membership.

Despite the positive public opinion trend, the differences in support for the EU between various social and political groups remains. Both the support for the euro and the support for defense cooperation in Europe is slightly decreasing. The issue whether Sweden should adopt the new EU treaty shows that an overwhelming majority have not yet taken a position on the matter.

The analysis is in Swedish and is part of the research project Swedish Public Opinion of the European Integration. It was presented at the seminar Growing support for the EU.
