10 May The 2010 Spanish EU Presidency

The current Spanish EU Presidency has faced a number of tough challenges. These include reaching an agreement on an EU strategy for employment and growth (EU 2020), handling the acute financial crisis in Greece and the EU response to the earthquake in Haiti. The Presidency has also had to focus on the effective implementation of the Lisbon Treaty and to deal with the associated institutional uncertainties. On top of this, the Trio – consisting of Spain, Belgium and Hungary – has ambitious plans for increased coordination between the three consecutive presidencies.

Ignacio Molina, senior analyst at Elcano Royal Institute in Madrid, will at the seminar present a mid-term review on the achievements of the Spanish Presidency. The report The 2010 Spanish Presidency: Trying to innovate Europe in troubled times is part of the research project the EU Presidencies.
