The New EU Treaty - a Big Deal?

Date: 17 September 2007 in Stockholm

During the summer a deal has been struck between European Governments to resurrect the notorius ”Constitution” in the shape of a Reform Treaty. The formalia are expected to be swiftly put into print. Even if the new Treaty has been designed to cause a lot less controversy it will not enter into force until it has passed the same hurdles for national recognition as its predecessor.

Will that process lead to a different result this time? Is the new Treaty desirable and a solution to the present problems in the European Union? In order to address questions and concerns with respect to the new Treaty, SIEPS invited a number of highly qualified commentators.

At the seminar the report Vad innebär reformfördraget? was presented. The report is part of the research project The constitutional development of the European Union.
