European Integration and Trade Diversion: Yeats revisited (2005:7)
The last decades have been characterized by deep regional integration in Europe as well as the emergence of new integration agreements in other parts of the world. This process has spurred an extensive debate about what the economic effects of integration are, both on insiders and outsiders.
However, in many cases, the results are ambiguous, theoretically as well as empirically. The purpose of the present study is to contribute to the understanding of the links between regional integration and trade patterns, by looking at the trade effects of the European integration. The report highlights the consequences for outsiders in general and for developing countries in particular.
The report was presented at the seminar Trade Effects of European Integration and is a part of the research project Trade and Welfare Effects of the EU's Bilateral and Regional Trade Agreements.
